Kimogener Point: Checked site along the point. Not viable for plover or tern nesting. Beach between Kimogener and Downs looks viable but no activity noted through June.
Downs Creek: Viable site but no activity. Site is privately owned. Checked site once a week through mid-June. No activity.
Marratooka Point: Not a viable site.
Mattituck Inlet: Monitoring site 4 times a week since March 31. Put up string fencing west of boardwalk on May 10. May 13 8 LETE and 2 common are seen at beach. Month of May in to June more LETE show up. Terns began nesting on eastern side of boardwalk, so we fenced May 24. June 2, heard plover but could not find. June 14 found plover nest one egg, west of western string fencing. June 16, bumped out string fencing to surround plover nest, now two eggs. June 18, exclosed plover nest. 3 Eggs. Month of June, monitored incubation. Terns are sitting. July 16, ppl have hatched, cannot locate chicks. Female plover seen feeding at waters edge. July 17, 6 LETE chicks seen on beach. July 21, Joe Jannsen and Tom Damiani spot 2 ppl chicks with adult. July 26, Tom Damiani saw one ppl adult with 1 chick. Heard another plover on other side of beach, perhaps they were split up.
Little Hog Neck: Site being monitored by NFAS and DEC. NFAS monitoring 3 times a week. No birds seen.
Cutchogue Harbor: DEC has been monitoring. NFAS monitoring Meadow Beach Preserve within Cutchogue Harbor site. There have been no plovers seen at Cutchogue Harbor sites. LETE nesting at Meadow Beach.
Little Creek: Site being monitored by NFAS and DEC. Monitoring 4 times a week since March 31. PPL pair seen March 30. Confirmed on the 31st. DEC put up string fencing south of gazebo. April 6th, plovers seen scraping and in courtship. April 20, one egg in nest. Nest exclosed by the DEC around April 25. Pair making it through all the rain. Eggs hatched May 25. June 4, 3 ppl chicks seen with 1 adult. June 5, 4 chicks seen with adult.. 6/21 still 4 chicks. 7/4, plover chicks have fledged. Saw 4 fledged LETEs with 8 adults.
Goldsmith’s Inlet: Began Monitoring March 31. No birds seen. Put up string fencing April 11th, with signage. Continued to monitor 3 times a week through mid- July. No birds. Habitat does not appear suitable for nesting. Too much vegetation.
Paradise Point: Not viable.
Jockey Creek: No habitat.
Goose Creek: Monitored by NFAS and DEC. Checked twice a week to early July by NFAS Plover Patrollers. No plovers or terns.
Gull Pond West: Began Monitoring March 31. Three times a week. String fencing erected. No birds seen through April. Late May LETE begin arriving. June 21 Ppl pair incubating nest, 4 eggs (DEC). 6/26, nest was predated. Second nesting exclosed July 13th, with three eggs. Monitoring nest 3 times a week. App. 22 LETE with 4 chicks 7/19. Ppl had one egg hatch. LETE chicks beginning to fledge.
Angel Shores: Did not monitor. DEC said site not active.
Corey Creek: Began monitoring in April. No birds seen. 5/7, 2 adult ppl seen scraping/courting. 5/17 ppl not seen. 6/6, 4 egg nest fenced by DEC. Monitored incubation. 6/26 saw adult ppl with two chicks.
Richmond Creek: Began monitoring in May. Checked through June twice a week. No birds.
Pipes Cove: Began checking in April. Checked through June, twice a week. No birds.
Conkling Point: Privately owned. Need to access by boat. Did not monitor.
Port of Egypt: Needs to be accessed by boat. Did not monitor.
