In honor of our founding President Aline Dove we decided to bring back Field Notes as a regular feature of our newsletter in 2008. Aline inaugurated Field Notes where she reported unusual bird sightings in 1975 and continued publishing them until 1989. In 2008 we began a project where we have been entering the Field Notes and other historic bird sightings from our old newsletters and members' contributions into eBird so that the historical data can be used for conservation purposes. For more information on this project click here.
Since we also have this web site we decided to add a new section to the site for Field Notes. The web allows us to publish the Field Notes in a more timely fashion than the newsletter so we hope you will all keep an eye on this section of the web site in planning your birding and submit sightings to us for others to review.
We are currently experimenting with the format of this section of the site but anticipate having a Recent Highlights page plus other pages organized by month. Feel free to let us know how you would like to see the sightings organized.
For now check it out and send us sightings at info@northforkaudubon.org.
Good luck birding out there!
