The Great Osprey Census 2008

North Fork Audubon Society is compiling a list of all osprey nests and platforms within our area which includes the entire North Fork, Shelter Island, Fishers Island, Plum Island, Robins Island, etc. We are interested in sites whether or not they are currently active. Please see the table below for the information we are collecting. The location information listed is approximate and will be used as a guide for mapping the exact locations using GPS equipment.

Thanks to Jody Levin for the updated Plum Island information, Thomas Killip for the extensive Nassau Point and Robins Island information, Carol Coakley for the Route 48 Southold update, Carolyn Spilman for the Plum Island information, John Brush Jr for the King Kullen nest, Darline Duffy for the Jurzenia Preserve update, J.S. Scope for the Oyster Factory nest, the dock nest near Founder's Landing, the new Arshamomque Pond nest, the Mattituck Creek island nest, the new Port of Egypt nest and for spotting that the broken LIPA tower nest had been rebuilt, Tom Stevenson for the information on the nest in the communications tower in Peconic and Lucas Perez for the Terry Point photo.

Thanks to the Southold DPW for repairing the platform at the Cedar Beach parking lot in Southold. The osprey have already rebuilt the nest!
